Since early 2014, the Global Health Workforce Alliance (GHWA) has been coordinating a broad-based  public consultation , through the development of 8 thematic papers, to collate evidence in support of a next global strategy on HRH: “GHWA will utilize these papers to provide recommendations to WHO, as a foundation for the development of the global strategy. WHO will use the recommendations from GHWA to inform the deliberations by its Member States.”

 

November 2014: How to address health workers migration in the global HRH strategy?

In November GHWA asked for feedback on the 8 thematic papers “to ensure that the views and contributions of all interested stakeholders are considered in the development of the global strategy on HRH”.

In view of the lack of a paper focusing on health workers migration, Medicus Mundi International – Network Health for All (MMI), the Health Workforce Advocacy Initiative (HWAI) and the European Project “Health Workers for all and all for health workers” (HW4All) submitted a joint feedback on the draft working group paper 1 on “Economic, Demographic, and Epidemiological Transitions and the Future of Health Labour Markets” which has at least a proper chapter on “Health Workforce Migration”.

 

January 2015: Informal MMI feedback on synthesis document

In mid-January 2015, GHWA published a synthesis paper of the findings and invited feedback and comments on this paper until January 31. The synthesis paper will be presented and discussed at the GHWA board at its 18th Board meeting on the 25-26 February 2015. Because of the short deadline, the MMI Network was not in a position to draft a formal feedback nor to consult its partners on this, but Network representatives Linda Mans (Wemos) and Remco van de Pas (member of the MMI Board) submitted to GHWA an informal input which was also shared with the Network’s partners and with the civil society representatives in the GHWA Board.
