Geneva, 25-30 January 2016. The WHO Executive Board is composed of 34 members technically qualified in the field of health. Members are elected for three-year terms. The main Board meeting, at which the agenda for the forthcoming Health Assembly is agreed upon and resolutions for forwarding to the Health Assembly are adopted, is held in January, with a second shorter meeting in May, immediately after the Health Assembly, for more administrative matters. The main functions of the Board are to give effect to the decisions and policies of the Health Assembly, to advise it and generally to facilitate its work.

The 138th session of the WHO Executive Board takes place from 25 to 30 January 2016. An annotated agendas and the full EB documentation is available here. Items on the agenda include health systems / health workforce, health in the SDGs, the follow-up of the Ebola crisis (International Health Regulations, WHO and emergencies), the WHO reform (Framework on Engagement with non-State Actors) and many others.

As in previous meetings of the WHO governing bodies, MMI will also host the “WHO Watch” project in its delegation (see here for the background of this great project). A series of civil society meetings co-hosted by the MMI Network will take place on the weekend before the WHO EB session.
