We are very happy to welcome plan: g – Partnership for Global Health in our family.

plan: g is an Austrian-based non-for-profit civil society organization established in 1958. plan: g’s mission is to overcome stigmatizing diseases of poverty, and to contribute to a sustainable development of the health sector. It follows a rights-based, participatory approach and specialized on change management consulting in health institutions, and programs. Among its activities, plan: g seeks to encourage participation in political processes promoting health and ensuring access to services/diagnosis/therapy/treatment to everyone.

We asked Mr. Matthias Witrock, plan: g general director, to explain why the organization decided to join MMI:

“The membership has been a strategic decision and an excellent match, as MMI offers great opportunities for increasing plan:g’s impact. We are excited about many activities run by MMI, such as the Kampala initiative. Then, we truly share some of the core values sponsored by MMI: the need of a right-based approach in international health cooperation; the necesity of think “beyond aid” when dealing with institutions and donors. plan: g is now involved together with its local partners in East Africa and the neighboring region of Arab States for strengthening health systems, with a focus on health personnel structures and access to general health insurance. We are ware that many MMI member organizations are coping with the same issues and we are happy to share a common platform for exchanging good practices and reflections. Indeed, the network is not about charity, but about the social determinants of health.”

Edwin Matt, chairman of the plan:g board, added:

“It is about solidarity. plan: g seeks to support (and to benefit from) one of the most important and oldest networks of health sector NGOs working in development cooperation. We would like to learn from the MMI network and at the same time bring in our specific perspective as that of a Catholic human rights organization in the health sector. “
