Human Resources for Health: MMI will contribute to the implementation of the WHO code of practice on the international recruitment of health personnel
On 20th May 2010, a ”Global Code of Practice on the International Recruitment of Health Personnel" was adopted by the 63rd World Health Assembly. The Medicus Mundi International Network, after having successfully advocated for the adoption of the Code, intends to actively contribute to its implementation.
Awareness raising, communication and cooperation on the implementation of the Global Code needs to start at regional and country levels. There is not only need for a dialogue within the health sector, but this should include representatives of labour, migration, public services, education, development cooperation, financing departments (etc.) as those policies also effect the health workforce. Non-public actors as private providers, recruitment agencies, labour unions, professional associations and faith based institutions and NGOs should be included in these dialogues at national levels.
The Medicus Mundi International Network, in cooperation with other organizations and networks, intends to play a role in linking national, regional and global levels of Code implementation as NGOs are well connected to the grassroots work and also have a role to play by engaging in the regional and global dynamics.
