Medicus Mundi International (MMI) is an international
Network of non-governmental organizations (NGO) and itself
an international NGO (legal status: association) in official
relation with the World Health Organisation. The association
is seated in Tönisvorst, Germany, with a secretariat
in Basel, Switzerland.
The aim of the MMI Network
is the promotion of health and health services for the most
deprived, especially in developing countries, with respect
for the unique value of the human being, as an individual
and as a member of the community.
Medicus Mundi International
has over 40 years, via the Network members, initiated long-term
sustainable health care projects. The network is independent
from any particular religion or political ideology. The members
of the Medicus Mundi International Network cooperate with
many local governmental and non-governmental institutions
in the spirit of partnership and lay particular emphasis on
training and capacity building.
Medicus Mundi International
supports basic curative and preventive activities, which are
Primary Health Care (PHC) oriented, in order to establish
a health care system that is in harmony with other activities
in the field of agriculture, sanitation and education, being
sustainable in the local socio-economic system.
Medicus Mundi International
members support projects through personnel assistance (health
experts), financial assistance (capital, drugs, equipment,
etc.) and professional advice (research, evaluation, supervision).
Medicus Mundi International
members provide emergency assistance preferably when the calamity
strikes an area where they are lready engaged and when this
aid offers the perspective of structural improvement and the
beginning of a long-term health care programme.
Medicus Mundi International
supports the activities of the Network members and promotes
the cooperation and exchange of experiences between them and
the international development organizations. MMI reinforces
the consciousness-raising of the public. |
